 SEN I feel safe and I feel unsafe tactile communication tags  - Visual aid for Autism, Learning disabilities & Learning difficulties

These tactile tags are ideal for use when out and about or in unfamiliar environments. Children and young people can have many sensory sensitivities that we are not always familiar with. These tags allow a young person to communicate their feelings in a discreet way and can help reduce feelings of overwhelm. This allows the care giver to take a step back, observe and either proceed or not, dependant on whether the child or young person is able to regulate how they are feeling and continue with the activity, enter the environment etc. This can be communicated by changing from “I am not safe,” “to “I feel safe”, or not feeling ready to move from “I am not safe”. We’ve also included a “Help” tag.

Allowing the child or young person to independently make these decisions is both validating and great for building their confidence in the care giver, and the environment.

Designed in collaboration with a senior CAMHS nurse, who has 30 years experience in the fields of adult learning disability and autism, children’s learning disability, children’s mental health and crisis intervention. Therapeutic skills include dialectical behaviour therapy, (DBT) and Non-Violent resistance therapy (NVR).
